Different address to mail payments

From what I can read on eBay, I don't think this is a problem, but here goes:

One of my selling ID's is actually selling items for a friend; all of my own selling is done on my other ID. When buyers send money orders, of course they come to me and then I sign them over or cash them to pass along the money. If I change the payment name and address to my friend's, will that trigger any kind of fishy alert? Not a big deal, but it would save me a step or two.

Anybody have mail payments coming to a different address than their registered eBay address?

This is just my opinion, but if I were selling for a friend, I'd want complete control of the whole operation, including receiving payments and shipping items. Even though the ID was created to sell for someone else, its still your reputation on the line.

Is your friend the one shipping the item? Or are you handling the entire transaction? If you're handling all the details, then it would be best if you received the payments, deposited them (to make sure no one's sending you a "fake" money order) and cut her a check.

If your friend is doing the shipping, I think I'd still want to receive the payments and then cut her a check. Again, its still your selling ID.

As for sending it to another address, I've bought things where payment was requested to go to another address, but I don't recall that they've ever gone to another name. That might have sent up a red flag for me and at the very least, I think I'd email to request clarification. I'd be a bit nervous sending a MO to someone completely different from what was listed on the WBN. BUT, I don't think eBay prohibits that.

And if you're "legal" (i.e., filing tax returns on your sales), how do you handle that? The money orders are coming in your name and you're simply signing them over. There's no paper trail.

Again, just my opinion.

I have 2 ebay stores that I manage for someone else. All the information is hers except the payment address which is mine. I've never had a problem and only had 1 payment go to ger address. I have the money orders/checks made out to me.

Good points - I'll leave it the way it is. I was just thinking from the convenience standpoint.

20/20 hindsight...if I had it to do over, I would have just opened a store using the other person's info. Of course, if I had it to do over, I'd be a thin, rich, lawyer, too! http://www.buildaforum.com/inkforums/img/smilies/biglol.gif
