Just got another neg from a newbie! I'm so pissed!
She says it took a month to get her item. How? She pd on 8/20 and I sent it out on 8/27, I emiled her saying if it took 3 wks for the p.o. to get it to her that's not my fault, the thing is I could swear she wrote me before saying she got it. I asked her if she's confusing my pkg with someone elses. I gave her a neg back, I have in my listings that i work f/t and usually ship within 5 business days sometimes it can take a bit linger but I do my best. I also always email someone if it is taking linger than the 5 business days to let them know what's up. You just can't please all the people. I know her getting a neg hurts her a lot more than hers did me she only has around 40 I have over 700 so her % went way down. I told her we can do a mutual withdrawal if whe wants, we'll see what she says. I've usually had pretty good luck with newbies. I'm just venting, I'm so glad I have you guys to ***** to! lol

That sucks...
Was it a book? Did you check DC to see when it was actually delivered?
I've got one lone item out there now that was shipped on the 4th and the buyer still hasn't received it yet... Mailed First class, and what's more it's not been scanned anywhere, still just has the blurb about being notified of the shippment, basically that I printed the label. I shipped at least a dozen packages that day and even remember the one mail guy being ticked that I had that many boxes on the day after a holiday... I'd arrived just as he was picking up from our little contracted outpost PO... But all other packages shipped that day arrived in just a matter of days.
Buyer is being patient and we're waiting to file insurance, but still ticks me off that it's taking so long.
Though of course just recently I had a buyer email me that his package finally arrived and it had been 3 months!

I don't get it. I know that if it's going to a rural or out of the way place it can take longer but 3 weeks is ridiculous.
I just had another customer tell me they haven't got there package yet and last week another one.
I read today on the forums here that paypal has been having a glitch that is causing the wrong shipping addresses to show up on a buyers info. I sure hope that that's not the problem in my cases, I'll really be pissed and if it ism paypal needs to reimbursh sellers for the extra money they have to spend to reship....and...if we wind up getting a neg because of being given the wrong info, they need to take them off!
The packages that customers are saying haven't arrived yet were mailed weeks ago! I've never had this many customers at the same time email me about their pkg not arriving yet. Every so often I will get one, mostly b4 when they still had the economy post for Intl shipping, it could take 3 or 4 mos in some cases! I always offer ar least 2 options but of course they usually went with the cheapesr (economy) and then get mad about how long it was taking. I would have to email them and explain it to them, even though I have it in my listings that economy is very slow, cheap but slow.
I guess that's the way it goes when dealing with the public, you just can't make everyone happy no matter how much you try. oh well.......back to work

Well, mine has been found! It arrived this morning I guess... Just a little bit ago I got an email from the buyer and as I opened it I readied myself to hear that it still hadn't arrived and they were done waiting etc.... but to my surprise (and relief) he said it had arrived today, in one piece and was postmarked the 4th (same as I told him I shipped it)
So who knows where that package sat hanging out for so long but I'm just glad they got it and now that transaction is complete... I hate having them 'open' for that long.

I just got a neg on ecrater from some one who claimed I sent them some link to advertising. It was a link to www.usps.com (http://www.usps.com) so they could track their package.
60% off retail didn't matter, or the fact that it shipped that very same day---no it was the option to track their order that was such a crime against humanity they felt the need to expose it to the world.
Hang in there,

If it takes you 5-7 days to ship a product you'll be getting a lot of negs eventually..might be better to get them addressed and have someone else ship them for you..your star rating on shipping time looks as gray as Bill Clinton's hair.

Why send tracking info (especially DC) unless they specifically ask for it? That's just asking for trouble.

I do it in the name of service. I like it when I shop for merchants to let me know my stuff has shipped. So I go one further I give 'em a tracking number and the link to whatever service was used.
This person had to be one of those that is just itching to find something wrong. When they couldn't find anything wrong--they just made it up.
Luckily those come along only so often.
Ecrater saw the confirmation e-mail I sent and graciously removed it.

The point I'm making is that unless you use SCAN or a similar service that shows that you shipped a DC item, it's going to tell them one of two things:
1) You generated a DC, which means nothing.
2) It's been delivered, in which case they don't need the email.
This is why I would only give the info on request.

Exactly, my packages don't get scanned until they are delivered. DC is NOT tracking. The only thing it's good for is you do have proof of delivery in case someone files a non receipt with paypal.

I don't think that if ya ship thru Paypal there is an option. It just gets sent as soon as ya pay.

I don't want any requests for info--my volume is too high to keep going back and looking for tracking numbers. So I send it as soon as it generates or I allow them (tracking number receipts) to stack up until I can get to them.
I have to send the customer confirmation anyway...
It provides a greater sense of service. One of those intangibles that generates repeat business.
I want to sell everyone a few times--at least. So I try to make it as pleasant an experience as possible.

Lately this has not been the case... I don't use the SCAN form because I usually leave for my carrier (without scheduling pick up) or take to the small contracted PO close by and they don't have a scanning system to scan it anyway.
However 98% of my packages have been showing up as being scanned into the Jacksonville facility, so they must scan everything that comes through with a bar code there and then it's posted on the site saying that the item was processed at the Jacksonville facility as such and such time and date.
I've also caught some that say other facilities as well before they show as delivered...
But I don't check them all, so not sure if all of them are being scanned at different points or what. But I know that most of my packages show the Jacksonville thing the day after I shipped them.

I always send the Buyer a thank you email along with their shipping confirmation # as soon as I finish packaging it. I also ask them to please let me know by email or positive feedback when they have received and examined their purchase. This has encouraged my Buyers to leave feedback more quickly. Before I started doing this, sometimes they would wait for weeks or never to post feedback! I ship same day or day after pmt. I have mine picked up here by the postal service and I don't think they get scanned. I asked once and they assured me they did. Since I ship so quickly I've never had to check on any. Buyers really love the quick shipping but then I don't work outside the home.
I bought something once and waited 2 weeks, emailed the seller and she said she had mailed it. When I checked at our PO they had 2 packages for me stuck in a bin somewhere in the bowels of the PO!http://www.buildaforum.com/inkforums/img/smilies/mad.gif

I agree... I've seen others though that state that they only ship once per week and on certain days etc.
I bought one time from someone who said they only shipped on Friday's and payment had to be in by Thursday night. I bid and won on their item that ended Thursday afternoon, paid immediately and then assumed it would ship Friday as stated in the listing... When I didn't receive it in a reasonable time I emailed to inquire about it's whereabouts and was told simply "I only ship on Friday's, your package will go out on Friday"
I kindly responded that I had indeed followed through with their requirements of paying by Thursday night and therefore assumed my package would go out that Friday...
Seller responded saying oh yes, she had gotten my payment but had too many packages to ship them all that night so when her bedtime came she stopped and the rest would have to wait till the following friday...
That was the last time I purchased anything from someone who states they only ship once per week. I'm just not a very patient person anyway lol, so I will go for someone with faster shipping anyday if given any option http://www.buildaforum.com/inkforums/img/smilies/grin.gif... Nothing against those that only have time to ship once per week... just my own feelings knowing how antsy I can be waiting for a package http://www.buildaforum.com/inkforums/img/smilies/wink.gif

I got ya beat...
Got a neg. this week from a Newbie because I shipped item to her CONFIRMED Ebay and Payapl address (WTF?).
She purchased item on Friday, I mailed it out Sat., she emails Monday asking for me to send it to a different address.
Neg. said "Item shipped to wrong address".
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
Stung her back with a neg....did the mutual FB thing and she said she wouldn't do it.
Brought her down to a 0 and 50%.
Oh...did I mention she was from California?!?!?
Sorry if you're from there...but ANY problems I have ever had are from Canadians or the "*$%&*" on the West Coast.
The Canadian's somehow think USA shipping amounts apply to them too and the Californian's think they're suppose to recieve their items the next day from Michigan, lol.
Hey...Priority ain't that fast!!

Reading this thread is going to make me wave the white flag and start using the SCAN form.
I had been debating it for a while, especially after learning I'll need to 'upgrade'{more $} my endicia account to get the service.
I had hoped that just focusing on quick shipping and answering with my standard "tracking is only available for USPS Express Mail service" would keep most people satisfied when asked "Did you ship my item yet" "Please send the tracking number" and my fave "When will I get it" questions I've come to dread. As we all know, getting it out quick doesn't guarantee it getting there quick, and some people (and not just newbies) are just, well, you know......
It'll mean more time and money on my end, but I've concluded that it needs to be looked at as part of the cost of doing business and responding to the demands of the marketplace to stay competitive.
I doubt all the auto makers were thrilled about having to add air bags, but the market (finally)demanded it. In fact, I recall a 60 Minutes story from about 25 years ago that reported about air bags being developed several years before coming to market and the auto industry squashed it saying they weren't dependable or economical. Both weren't true, but that's a another story...
Competition benefits the consumer and I'm willing to play the game for my piece of the pie.
Soon, when I grumble about dealing with the SCAN form and emailing customers their DC numbers, I'll just remind myself of the time a few years ago when I kissed an airbag and didn't need a trip to the ER, but that's another story...
Regards,
Carl

Notice how you never have problems with the items you'd think you would?
Most people here know I sold a guitar I bought at a garage sale for $60 for $4000.
Now....that's one item I "THOUGHT" there might be a possibility I would have a problem with (based on the price).
Since ...
#1 the pics are approx 3" by 3" on Ebay
#2 he had to pay like $800 in unknown Canadian Customs charges
#3 the item was from 1929 and beauty is definately in the eye of the beholder when it comes to descriptions.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO...he was thrilled with it.
Like I always say, it's the cheap $10 items that come back and bite ya in the arse.
I just sold a prop we had just bought for our boat and used twice this summer.
I listed it as USED and he paid half the price of a new one.
He complained when he got it that it had a small paint chip on the INSIDE.
By the way...I have yet to see a prop without a paint chip on it (but come on...this was on the inside and unnoticeable unless looking for something to complain about).
Again, it was USED!!!
When I sent that out I never in a MILLION years would have thought I'd have a problem with that one.
It always SURPRISES me what people complain about and it's NEVER what I expect.
I'll never forgot that someone on here once said they got a NEGATIVE for selling a pair of off white pants (I think) and the person said "off white color didn't exactly match the off white sweater I wanted to wear it with"
LOL!!!

I neg the crap out of people right back. I recently gave 2 neutrals to 2 different people for DINGING my stars on shipping. I KNOW who leaves them as I monitor these stars DAILY.

I've noticed that if you request a pick up they automatically scan everything when they pick up.
My post office (actually the local post office--I don't own one--yet!) is starting to catch up with the volume so everything is getting scanned with or without the form now.

Yes. When you get to the page where you print your shipping labels, just to the left of the Print Shipping Labels button is a button that says Print Scan Form. Click that first. Hand it to the clerk, and they'll scan it, and all the packages that belong to it will register as having been accepted.
The USPS may not consider this tracking, but I know my customers do. It's saved my a** more than once, especially since media mail has slowed down.

It always SURPRISES me what people complain about and it's NEVER what I expect.
Isn't that the truth! Anytime I have a high dollar item, I'm always holding my breath waiting for there to be 'something' wrong in some way shape or form... but so far so good, they're always thrilled with their purchase and happy with ship time etc. Even when one item was something that required a specially made box and took me a couple days to aquire all the supplies needed to package it safely.
But I recently had a woman complain about a $20 jacket listed in the girls category by a children's clothing line. Saying she didn't realize it was a child's size 9, thought it was a woman's and she asked for a refund... She paid in total $16.50 shipping to her and back to me in order to receive $20 back...
Then almost immediately after that another woman bought an item and after she got it wanted to know if she could return it cause it didn't match the item she wanted it to match.... At that point I told her that I do not offer refunds on items that were exactly as described.
Both of these items were not high dollar items and more of a PITA than any high dollar item I've ever sold.

It's always the little crap where buyers give you fits. Just another reason why you should avoid selling stuff for under $20.

hi, was just doing some back reading here re. self-printing of DC being no proof of actual mailing. My post office hand-stamps (postmarks) MY copy of the DC - doesn't this show that the package was actually received by my post office, and-mailed? I have always thought this was so?

Yes, it is proof that the PO received item for mailing but for a Paypal claim, that is not good enough. It is the actual Delivery Confirmation (proof that item was delivered that can be tracked online) that is a seller's salvation.

Feedback over shipping times can be challenging. It's always fun to get your stuff right away but once the seller gets it in the mail they can't help how long the shipping process takes!

My experience is that some post offices have a postal watch going on. A postal watch is when packages are opened and the content is checked. If this happens, some packages will be held for a couple of weeks. What I do to avoid this is that I mail the packages from a very safe and nice area of my town. Possibly high class areas dont get postal watch because of low crime rate...but you never know. Rural areas are bad too, delays will always happen.
