This is a very interesting thread on Ecrater. If you haven't read it then you should.

Yeah.. me too... I don't like that withholding of the customer's email and contact information... that's just insane. And them being able to go into your bank account for a chargeback is not cool either.

Come on folks . . . It's slick, it's free, and it's NOT owned by eBay! We've had almost 40 of our 200+ eCrater sales paid through Google Checkout. No hitches - no glitches! -Don

They do? Wow, bank account could be hit
before ya even knew there was a chargeback...
could easily end up with NSF fee from the bank too! No thanks http://www.buildaforum.com/inkforums/img/smilies/sad.gif

Yes it is but being free ends Dec. 31,2007.

That's definitely my biggest issue with Google Pay.

On Ecrater I am running around 50% each but my multi sales are almost always paid thru Google.

We have received 24 Google Checkout payments on eCrater. Eight of our last nine sales have been paid using Google. All show the buyers e-mail address...I just checked.

Yes it is but being free ends Dec. 31,2007.

I'll worry about that after Dec. 31. Google is free today, it saves me money and it works.

Yes, Google's free until the end of the year. Then their charge will still be less than PayPal. By the way, when was the last time PayPal offered you anything free?

You know the buyer's address and telephone number (if the buyer furnished the number to eCrater) on all of your eCrater sales.

The withholding of the buyer's email address is an eCrater problem - not a Google problem. I don't see why eCrater hasn't fixed that - they have the buyer's email address on file and could easily furnish it to the seller on the order screen like they do on all other sales.

And about credit card charge-backs: Any credit card sale is subject to the buyer changing his mind. It doesn't matter if it's direct with the credit card company or through PayPal or Google Checkout. If, as a seller, you deal direct with the credit card company, they'll charge back your account. If it's through PayPal, I guarantee you, PayPal will get its money back - from either your PayPal account, by charging YOUR credit card account, or from your checking account. Google automatically deposits the money in your checking account - if the sale goes south, Google's only option is to get their money back from your checking account. I can't see much difference - if the buyer is unhappy, he's going to get his money back - and no one's going to ask you, the seller, if it's OK with you!

I've never had a Google sale reversed, but I'm sure it could (and probably will) happen. How close do you keep your checking account to zero? This could be the problem - not a charge back from Google, PayPal or whatever.

Google Checkout is an "non-eBay option" to help you create sales. And as I mentioned earlier, eBay doesn't make a dime on an eCrater sale paid through Google checkout. -Don

It is the purchaser's option. Some of my purchases have an email address like this Suzie-bs37dog@checkout.l.google.com and it is totally impossible to get to them.

I wasn't complaining, just pointing out. And yes it will be less than PP.

Regardless, I accept and like both Google Pay and PayPal.

I do smile just a bit more when it is an Ecrater sale and paid thru Google!

I signed up with Google Checkout as a buyer but not a seller. I didn't want to have to go open a checking account at a "real bank" just so I could accept Google payments. Google does not accept savings accounts, which is what I have my PayPal linked to.

One of our buyers does have one of the checkout.l.google.com e-mail addresses. I contacted him twice, once to combine shipping and once to tell him the items were shipped, and he responded both times.

Google's only option is to get their money back from your checking account.
If you have a regular merchant account thru your bank and there is a CC chargeback, they'll do exactly the same thing.

Sigh,,,, Just when I thought things would be moving favorably towards protecting sellers and their integrity.

For all of you inkfroggers....are you keeping open your ebay stores while opening your ecratera stores and other sites??

I've got to get some software that manages these multiple locations.

I'd started a free Google spreadsheet at one time
to track stuff. I'm not even a licensed business and am ready to take the plunge taxes and all.

I am not sure what step to take next. Guess I'll just keep plugging with ebay store until inkfrog gets their act working.

I don't want anyone having chargback access from my bank account...heck I guess they do with PP anyway right??
Oh, man. Just another thing to deal with!!!http://www.buildaforum.com/inkforums/img/smilies/smirk.gif
