This newbie buyer is still bidding like crazy on other auctions(has 1 pos FB so far)
I file NPB and on the 7th day got this response..
"My wife bid on this item and is now in the hospital after a terrible wreck.
They don't know if she's going to make it with the complications. So please just relist this
item.
Thanks

I have got quite a few of these over the years. I've heard some good stories. File an unpaid bidder and you'll get your money back.
Of course you never know?? Maybe this person is telling the truth?
It doesn't happen enough to me to make a big deal out of it. you can usually get your fees back anyway. Just relist it. Dan

My daughter was in a roll over accident this last weekend. Thank God she is fine. Anyway I'm a few days behind now on shipping?
When my grandfather died a few months ago and was in hospice home care for a couple weeks I got behind on shipping. If someone complained I just told them the truth. Most of the people were pretty cool about it. i suppose some folks just thought i was BSing them. Dan

Certainly doubt it since she was still bidding and winning (around 50 "girly" items)when I got the NPB response.
In all these years I have never gotten such a dramatic excuse. Rather shocked me that someone's mind would go to such a tragic extreme. Yicks, bad karma!

Oh Dan, you have really been thru way too much! My prayers are with you and your daughter.
Na,your track record as a seller shows you aren't BSing. Life happens!

Ok, here's my story...I decided I wanted to wait until I could close the disputes before I posted it.
Person had zero feedback, bid on 5 of my items (same pattern of vintage dinnerware), then disappeared. No response to 3 messages, and no response to dispute until last night (the final night to respond OF COURSE) Then only responded to 2 of the disputes however. Response #1: (responded twice)
i have not paid because i was robedi have not paid because i was robedi have not paid because i was

i have not paid because i was robed
-----------
Response #2:
i have not p[aid for the item because some one in my family has stolen all my money out of the bank
-----------
I resisted the urge to say, no I think I'M the one who got "robed." Don't understand why they felt the need to post that response over and over (as if it was MY fault or something?)
Since they didn't even bother to try to be nice or apologetic about it....5 unpaid strikes. NARU. No way was I gonna give them a chance to give me neg feedback after all this aggravation.
I also happen to know that they stiffed another seller last month (I sent them a message last week) saying they bid on a $30 item "by mistake." That seller gave them a pass. The sad thing is, now I hesitate to relist my stuff fearing this person is gonna get a new id and mess with me again.
Dan, also glad your daughter is ok. I lost my grandmother last week. She was 98.
And of course things happen IRL...the difference is, you have a track record, and this person didn't. If she legitimately couldn't complete the transaction, she could have notified me two weeks ago. And in a nicer way!!

Dan--glad to hear that she's alright. That had to scare a few hairs off your head!
I have heard a variety of stories over the years. I always think that this one tops the cake, until the next person.
If someone has a proven track record, etc... then you can be pretty sure that they are telling the truth. But when the story changes, or more, then you can be pretty sure they are full of it.
My worst story so far:
I had one person tell me their house caught fire. My sister lived in the same town. It was her house that burned down. This buyer went on to tell me that it was her house, showed me pictures, etc. Played the feel sorry for me game really well. Even told me other sellers were sending stuff to her even though she couldn't pay, etc.
When I got the pictures, I then told her I knew it wasn't her house that caught fire and thanked her for emailing me pictures of my married sister's house that had burned down along with a lecture on lying.
I was so upset. My sister has been through it and back; and to have a buyer do what that one did, there are not enough words to describe the absolute disgust, etc. I felt about them. http://www.buildaforum.com/inkforums/img/smilies/shame.gif

Back in the days of sd98, I had a guy win a book for 98 cents plus a couple of dollars shipping. After I filed for an unpaid item, he replied that his psychiatrist had advised him not to complete the sale.
The book? A 1970's college textbook I had from a sociology class entitled Deviant Behavior and Social Process. I really wanted to ask him what he was in treatment for!!! http://www.buildaforum.com/inkforums/img/smilies/eek.gif

Dan - so glad your daughter is okay.
The funniest reason I ever got was several years ago: I only bid on this because I was drunk. I don't really want it.
And he never did pay, so he got a strike.

I had a seller who printed the postage off in the beginning of May, then went on an overseas vacation for a month and did not send my items. I filed a report with Paypal and when she got back in June, she said that she would send a replacement with the same tracking number. (You can only reprint the postage in a 24 hour period with Paypal, otherwise it would have been a different tracking number.) Boy, I laid into her like there was no tomorrow. I had already sold these items in my brick & mortar store. She offered free shipping on our next transaction. Fool me once...there's not going to be a next time. I've noticed she has done the same thing to others in her feedback. Bad Seller.

hehehehe, I was thinking the same thing! Well, really more along the lines of 'What does being in a robe have to do with paying your bills? I've paid mine in the nude before!' http://www.buildaforum.com/inkforums/img/smilies/lol.gif Online transactions are great like that! LOL

My daughter was in a roll over accident this last weekend
I'm glad your daughter is fine from the accident! That must have been very scary!!
I'm sure with your reputation that the buyers believe you with the delay in shipping, if not OH WELL... That's how I look at it at least... My daughter has epilepsy and there have been times when she's had a major seizure and had to be rushed to the hospital or when she's just been really ill at home and her care always comes first. I just explain to the buyers at the time, and like you, I sometimes wonder if they think I'm feeding them some BS, but at the same time figure that I don't care either cause if they look at my fb they'll see that normally I ship very promptly and it's got to be something very serious to prevent me from doing so, but stuff happens and from time to time we all have stuff that interferes with our plans for the day!
Anyway, glad to hear your daughter is ok, and sorry about the loss of your grandfather as well.

Thanks for the support guys! A foot or two in either direction she would have hit a telephone pole or head on into the guard rail.
Of course I don't consider it luck. I know in my heart that she was protected by God.
I also lost my father to lung cancer about 3 years ago. The comforting thing is knowing that my father and grandfather were Christians so I know they are in better place. Some folks don't have that comfort it's a very sad thing.

I know in my heart that she was protected by God.
I know in my mind that if she was protected by God, she'd have continued driving down the road without having an accident.
Regardless, glad things worked out.

Just received this treasure
My friend, Sydney Wentworth is out of the state due to her widowed, elderly father's recent, severe stroke. She doesn't know how long she will be out of the state (anticipates anywhere from two to four weeks).
